Curtis Humphreys and the University of T&T stayed top of the Petrotrin National Table Tennis League First Division after winning their third straight match from as many outings on Sunday.
UTT 'A' won by default against Woodbrook Gladiators at the Edwards Table-Tennis Academy, Santa Rosa to improve to maximum six points, two ahead of Arima Hawks. Also on Sunday, Michael Nanton had two wins to lead D'Abadie Youths to a 3-1 win over Carenage Blasters. On Wednesday UTT 'A' squad defeated Solo Crusaders 'B' 3-1 led by two victories for top player Curtis Humphreys.
Humphreys provided his team-mates with the start they were looking for when he defeated Stephen Wade, 11-9, 11-4, 11-13, 12-10. Crusaders 'B' drew level when Imtiaz Mohammed upstaged Kris Frank in five sets, 12-10, 5-11, 11-3, 6-11, 11-9. Tobagonian, Terell Abbott restored UTT 'A' advantage via an 11-6, 11-6, 9-11, 12-10 victory over Ferdinand Castillo before Humphreys' closed out the match by beating Mohammed, 11-5, 11-8, 11-9 in one of the reverse singles.
Arima Hawks got off to the best possible start with a win by default over PowerGen on Tuesday while Solo Crusaders 'A' blanked Crusaders 'B' 3-0. Terry Corbin came from a set down to outclass Anil Ramlakhan 9-11, 11-7, 11-5, 11-5; Andrew Alexander got the better of Miguel Nixon 11-3, 11-2, 10-12, 11-8, and teenager Michael Pillai battled past Michael Fong, 9-11, 10-12, 11-4, 11-7, 11-8.
