A Music Festival Victory for UTT |
 |
| |

Members of the winning ensemble (left back row): Kevon Duncan, Trevon Cudjoe, Kristen Murrell, Hasley Benjamin, Aaron Clarke.
left front row: Jamal Gibbs, Katrina Khan, Dantè Pantin (composer), Ishmael Wharton
Dantè Pantin, student of UTT’s Music for Pannist programme, wowed the judges at the recently concluded Music Festival with his composition, "Festive Moods". The musical piece, created specifically for the Music Festival, was enough to solidify Dantè as the winner of the Music Literacy Trust for Steel Pan Trophy - Composition Class (M12).
Using his carnival 2010 experience as inspiration for his music, Dantè led his colleagues to victory as he conducted their rendition of his song; scoring an impressive win with a total of ninety-nine (99) out of a possible one hundred (100) points. Eight (8) students of the Music for Pannists programme formed the winning ensemble; taking a total of ten (10) days to master the many musical layers of "Festive Moods".
Having served as the arranger for his former school, Diego Martin Secondary, at the Junior Panorama competition in 2009, Dantè hopes to arrange for much larger bands in the future. Mentored by Seion Gomez, arranger for the NLCB Buccooneers and lecturer in the Music for Pannist programme, Dantè currently drums for the NLCB Buccooneers steelband in addition to pursuing his studies at UTT.
