Professor Ken Julien met with Atlantic Methanol Production Company's (AMPCO) President, Mr. Paul Moschell at UTT's corporate office in a bid to further strengthen the existing relationship between UTT and West Africa's largest Methanol Company. UTT was successful in obtaining the opportunity to train several senior operators from AMPCO's plant in Equatorial Guinea (EG), West Africa.

The training began August 2007 with the programme split into two phases. In the first phase the participants were exposed to an introductory level in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Computer Studies and Communications. The latter phase exposes the participants to plant operations at some of the nation's Methanol plants. Additionally, they will be placed in several industrial plants within the Point Lisas area, where they will gain practical experience necessary to accompany what they have been learning.

Commenting on this initiative, Senior Manager, Zameer Mohammed, indicated that this training forms part of UTT's wider initiative of providing continuing professional education to the regional scope. Recently UTT successfully completed a series of programmes on site for Staatsolie Oil Company, the State Oil Company of Suriname.

The EG trainees were also taken on various tours which assisted their understanding of the history and culture of Trinidad and Tobago.
